The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand facilities, and client transport.

The Umeå area includes the closed prison Umeå, the open prison Sörbyn, and the remand facility Umeå. We are undergoing significant capacity increases, and there is much happening in the area in terms of renovations and new constructions. The largest professional group is prison officers, but we also have healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production leaders, etc. At Sörbyn prison, inmates are engaged in labor market training, learning centers, various treatment programs, or work in the kitchen, carpentry, crop cultivation, packaging/assembly, etc. Sörbyn prison is an agricultural prison with grain cultivation and animal husbandry. At Umeå prison, inmates are employed in wood/industry, kitchen, learning centers, and treatment programs. The prison and remand facility Umeå are about a 10-minute walk from the nearest bus stop, and Sörbyn prison is easiest reached by car. Staff parking is available at all units.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service provides some open healthcare services, meaning that all prisons and remand facilities have healthcare clinics where inmates can seek care. In addition to nurses, there are general practitioners and psychiatrists at the clinics.

As a nurse, you will have your own clinic for assessing minor ailments, but you will also assess which applicants should see a doctor. This means that you will work with both somatic and psychiatric healthcare for the inmates, assist during medical consultations, and administer medications primarily through dose dispensing.

You will be employed as a nurse within the entire Umeå area but will be stationed at Sörbyn prison. If necessary, work may also occur at Umeå prison or Umeå remand facility.

QUALIFICATIONS

In stressful situations, you remain calm, stable, and controlled. You have a high level of integrity and the ability to make correct assessments and priorities. You are quality-conscious and meticulous, and you have the ability to structure your approach and drive your processes forward.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Registered nurse
• Ability to express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish
• Driving license (B)

Meriting:

• A relevant specialization or further education for the employer, for example, in psychiatry, substance abuse issues, emergency care, outpatient care, or with a focus on district nursing.
• Work experience in the profession
• Other language skills besides Swedish and English.
